Super Mario Galaxy Film Trailer Debuts, Introducing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices
The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination released the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. This occurred during a Nintendo-focused broadcast that centered on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
Following up on the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will transport Mario to the distant reaches of the galaxy. There, he will encounter a new princess and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
A Cosmic Adventure Inspired by Classic Games
Similar to the games from the Wii period that provide its foundation, Mario will leave behind the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. On his epic voyage, he will encounter once more some familiar faces, including the Luma, a fan favorite from the original cinematic release.
But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who seemingly utilizes powers related to metal. Worth mentioning, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also includes nods to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
All-Star Vocal Ensemble Returns and Expands
The feature will see the return of the initial voice actors, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
A Big Year for Mario
The new Mario movie is set to release near the 40-year celebration of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. In addition to the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a major period for Mario and his friends.
Nintendo has a trio of new releases officially announced for that year, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Premiere Date Announced
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
