Australia's authorities have suspended the search for a four-year-old who has been missing in the wilderness for nearly three weeks, after fresh operations were unable to discover any traces of the boy.

Gus Lamont was observed playing near his home on a isolated rural property near Yunta, about 186 miles from Adelaide, on 27 September.

His grandmother briefly departed for about thirty minutes before looking for him, only to discover the boy nowhere to be found, triggering one of the biggest comprehensive searches in the region's records.

Latest Situation

Police - who do not believe wrongdoing - say they will persist looking into, but that the matter has become a "recovery operation".

Earlier, authorities briefly reduced the operation, only to restart it on Tuesday alongside 80 military personnel.

"Commissioner authorities said officials were searching a broader zone based on updated evaluations from medical and rescue professionals, rather than any new information."

Search Challenges

On Friday, officials announced that the recent operation had not discovered any evidence of Gus.

"The fact that the child is a little boy, the landscape is extremely rugged, harsh and affected by changing climate has made the operation demanding and more complex for those involved," officials said in a announcement.

About a vast area - an area roughly twice the dimensions of a major city - has now been covered, and a 12-person team established earlier this week is anticipated to continue examining. Police have not excluded further operations of the location in the time ahead.

"It's easy to comprehend just how they are coping... without having answers as to specifically where the boy is and what's occurred to him. This would be heartbreaking for any loved ones," Spokesperson the commissioner said.

By means of a spokesperson, the relatives household has earlier said they are "heartbroken" by the child's vanishing.

"This constitutes a trauma to our household and acquaintances, and we are finding it difficult to understand what has happened," Bill Harbison said.
