Doris Makes Irish Squad While McCarthy Misses Out
Newly reappointed head coach the Ireland coach has included captain Caelan Doris in his Irish squad for the fall internationals, however lock McCarthy has been excluded.
The captain, absent from play since having a shoulder operation in early May, has come back to Leinster training, but it remains unclear if he will be ready to play against New Zealand in the US on 1 November.
Second row McCarthy, on the other hand, did not make the cut after not recovering from the foot injury suffered during the opening British and Irish Lions match against Australia in the summer.
Northern province player Cormac Izuchukwu and Munster wing Calvin Nash are also absent due to injury, and number 15 Keenan was previously excluded after having a hip operation following the summer tour.
Leinster prop McCarthy - Joe's younger brother - is the sole new player in the 34-player group, but the Irish Rugby Football Union states uncapped Munster pair Edwin Edogbo and Gleeson and previously capped Connacht wing Shayne Bolton will head to Chicago as "backup".
After playing the New Zealand at Soldier Field in a rematch of their 2016 meeting, the team host Japan, Australia and world champions the Springboks in Dublin.

In a mostly experienced selection, Leinster's Prendergast and the southern club's Jack Crowley will again compete for the starting fly-half spot. Ciaran Frawley is the third number 10 selected as Farrell deciding not to selecting Leinster's Harry Byrne.
At number 9, Farrell has picked British and Irish Lion Jamison Gibson-Park and Craig Casey, who led the national side to the summer Test victories over Georgia and Portugal. There is also a return for the western province's Blade, chosen to club-mate Ben Murphy.
Henshaw, Aki, Garry Ringrose and Stuart McCloskey represent an veteran group of centre options. Jamie Osborne is a further choice in the centres, though the 23-year-old is additionally a frontrunner to deputise for the full-back at full-back.
Wingers James Lowe, Mack Hansen, Tommy O'Brien and Jacob Stockdale are named. The winger shone on his national team debut over the summer with a brace each in the wins over Georgia and Portugal.

Conan, who played in each of the Lions Tests during the tour, is poised to cover for Doris if the captain does not regain fitness soon enough to play New Zealand.
The Ireland squad will assemble in the capital on the start of the week before traveling to Chicago on the following day.
